Item Description
A wonderful 19th century oil on canvas painting depicting the portrait of a gentleman wearing a black and white tuxedo, posed in 3/4 profile facing the right against a dark brown ground.
Displayed without glass in an of the period frame with original gilding, deeply beveled and detailed with a relief trim around the interior. Affixed with a picture light at the top.
The gentlemen in the painting named is Richard J. Oglesby (lived from 1824-1899). He was twice governor of Illinois but not successfully.
He was govern from 1865-1869, then 1873 and then resigned.

Condition
Presents well with wear commensurate with age. Some craquelure to the painting. Scattered finish wear to the frame that does not detract from the overall appearance. Picture light untested. Please review the pictures as they are a part of the condition report.
