Chauncey Foster Ryder (American, 1868-1949) was an American artist born in Danbury, CT.
Ryder is most well known for his work as a painter, working in oil and watercolor. Additionally, Ryder worked in print making methods including etching and lithography as as well as work as an illustrator. Ryder has an extensively impressive academic career including time spent at the Academie Julan, Paris with J.P. Laurens, 1901. Ryder also exhibited his works on a global scale including numerous times in Paris as well as the U.S.
Chauncey Ryder was a member of prestigious art organizations including the Lotos Club; Allied Artists of America, with works being held in a lengthy list of prestigious institutions.
The current oil on canvas "Golden Marsh Land" painting fabulously depicts an Impressionistic autumnal wooded, marsh landscape. A dense cloud cover hovers over the wooded marsh with glints of sun and blue sky peeking through.
Signed lower left.
Bearing a Salmagundi Club label on verso denoting the artist and title.
Displayed behind plexiglass with a gilt mat, all within a carved and gilt finished frame.
Condition: Displays well with minor wear to the frame. Gentle wear commensurate with age and display.
