BRG is pleased to offer part two of the impressive lifetime collection amassed by the late Lilla Cooper. This collection contains a treasure trove of remarkable finds. From elegant silver and china pieces to fine works of art, her collections reflect a lifetime of passion and curiosity.
Among the highlights are Lilla's meticulously curated tableware including china, silver, crystal, fine and decorative arts, and costume jewelry, which garnered admiration from guests at her legendary dinner parties. This is a great opportunity to acquire some really pretty pieces to enjoy as much as Lilla and her family and friends did. Happy bidding!
ABOUT LILLA COOPER
Trained in art history at Vassar, Lilla possessed an unparalleled eye for design and a deep appreciation for all things beautiful and unique. Her thriftiness drove her passion for finding an undervalued bargain. In fact, for over seven decades, she tirelessly scoured thrift stores, tag sales, and antique shops throughout the greater Fairfield County region, guided by her keen sense of value and aesthetics.
As a devoted patron of the arts, Lilla's influence extended far beyond her personal acquisitions through her efforts to foster a broader community of fellow enthusiasts. She connected with and created her own extensive network of dealers and collectors through daily scouring and outreach using the Newtown Bee’s Arts & Antiques Weekly. Additionally, her role in the 1970s and 80s as a volunteer at Fairfield University's continuing education department’s Art-with-the-Experts program (which organized student trips to New York to meet with art experts and collectors at museums and art dealerships) underscores her commitment to sharing her passion, knowledge and appreciation for the finer things in life.
Despite her remarkable accomplishments, Lilla harbored one unfulfilled dream: to open her own store. Nevertheless, Lilla's legacy is not only defined by the objects she collected but by the memories she created and the lives she touched. In fact, many of the condolence cards her family received after her death mentioned how much the senders enjoyed being in her home and her various ever-evolving collections.
